Invergordon Primary School

"Big School Program, Small School Atmosphere"

Invergordon Primary School’s philosophy is that every member of the school community has a right to fully participate in an educational environment that is safe, supportive and inclusive.

Our vision is to provide a happy, caring and stimulating environment where children will recognise and achieve their full potential so that they can make their best contribution to society.

Our school values are: Learning, Friendship, Respect, Responsibility and Safety.

School Profile

Invergordon is situated in a rural area. The present school was officially founded on October 2nd ,1961 around the time that the first dairy and orchard blocks were allocated in a Closer Settlement scheme. The school was built to accommodate around 200 children but with a much smaller enrolment now we have space for a separate Art room and Library. A recent addition is a large kitchen/staffroom, well stocked with equipment, which is regularly used by the children for cooking.

Invergordon P.S. provides a caring and friendly atmosphere in which children are encouraged to strive for excellence. We stress the importance of the rights of everyone to a safe and friendly school environment. The school operates under the premise that all children at the school will experience the best education possible. We offer ‘Big school programs, small school atmosphere’. Being a smaller school our students receive lots of individual attention and all of them get the opportunity to develop leadership skills.

Invergordon P.S. belongs to a Cluster of nine small schools which join together at least once per term for excursions such as Aquamoves, theatrical performances, Literacy Day and Student Wellbeing and Engagement Days. Grade 3/4 and Grade 5/6 students join with other schools for their Camps Program and the older students have additional opportunities to mix with other primary students when they are preparing to transition to secondary school.

This year we are operating a multi-age class in a double room. Our school programs offer learning experiences in all curriculum areas and cater for individual differences whilst fostering individual student learning styles. Each student has an iPad in addition to other computers. An Emotional Intelligence program is also integrated into our school program to support and nourish the children’s confidence, persistence, organisational skills and their ability to get along with others.

The school is serviced by the MARC (Mobile Area Resource Centre) and MACC (Mobile Art Craft Centre) vans which visit fortnightly and we have visiting Science/P.E. and Music teachers.

The school has a large playing area that combines open space with shaded areas. These include a covered playground with a variety of equipment, a shaded sandpit, a netball/basketball court with provision for Bike Education activities and bat tennis, rebound wall, native garden which incorporates a memorial garden, football/cricket oval and an extensive playground.

Parent involvement is fostered and highly valued. Invergordon has strong community support which clearly adds value to student learning and is a feature of the school’s operation. Parents are involved in all aspects of school life including School Council, Parents’ Group, classroom assistance, maintenance of school buildings and grounds, sports and our camps/excursions program. Our school newsletter is published fortnightly to keep parents informed.

The wider local community is invited to attend special events such as our ANZAC service, Remembrance Day service, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea and our Christmas Concert, held at the Community Centre.
